About me

Lauren Bavis recording an interview with a source for a story on Black maternal mortality rates.

I'm a digital editor and investigative reporter with a decade of experience in audio, print and digital journalism.

I'm currently a digital editor at WFYI, Indianapolis' public media station. I'm also the co-host of Sick, a podcast about what goes wrong in the places meant to keep us healthy. And I report for Side Effects Public Media, a journalism collaborative based at WFYI that focuses on public health challenges and inequities in the Midwest.

I previously worked as a reporter, digital editor and social media manager at The Herald-Times newspaper in Bloomington, Indiana.

I was part of the team of Side Effects Public Media reporters named Indiana's Journalists of the Year in 2019 by the Indiana Professional Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. My work has also been recognized by the Public Media Journalists Association, Indiana Associated Press Broadcasters Association, Hoosier State Press Association and Indiana Associated Press Media Editors.

I'm a 2012 graduate of Towson University, where I met my husband, Kyle. We live in Bloomington, Indiana, with our cat, Rust.
